Qualified for the Primary?

Kentucky has closed party primaries. This means that only a registered Democrat can vote in the democratic primary and only a registered Republican can vote in the republican primary. If you are registered as a third party or independent you can only vote in nonpartisan primary races, if any, like mayors, city councils and judicial races. Of course, any registered voter can vote in any race in the November general election.

If you change your party affiliation after December 31, you can’t vote for either party in the following May primary. You can only vote for any nonpartisan races that may be on the ballot in the primary. Again, any registered voter can vote in any race in the November general election.
